The advance copy of the 3rd edition of my book “Planning” arrived today(further information). Unlike its author, it has a new racy appearance (although I did get my hair cut this week). With all the reforms to the planning system to address, it also has a lot of new content (unlike my stories). It is disappointing that those reforms have made the system more complicated - surely a missed opportunity?
I’ve found the book a really useful information resource over the last few months – hopefully you will too.
Several years ago a planning consultant with tongue firmly in cheek phoned up looking for free advice on the grounds that the answer wasn’t in the book. It was very satisfying to turn the tables and give him the page number that answered his question! However, the book is only a general introduction, and doesn’t claim to provide all the answers. The Brodies’ planning team are still here to provide opinions for a very reasonable fee.
Over the years people have very kindly provided feedback on the book. That is greatly appreciated, so please do feel free to send me your comments.
And to respond in advance to some frequently asked questions: no, I don’t make much money from these books; yes, I will sign your copy (to be honest, it does feel strange that someone wants me to sign, especially given my scrawl, but it’s only polite to do it if someone asks, and they have); and, no, I don’t know which actors will play myself and Jim McKinnon in the film (here).
As I’m not likely to get a shot at an awards ceremony speech, I’ll take this opportunity to say thanks to everyone who helped with the book, especially all at Brodies and the publishers W Green, and my wife for her support.
